Skincare misconceptions part 1

Moisturising

I think its a common misconception that if you have oily skin theres no need to moisturise because your skin moisturises itself right? WRONG. Regardless of your skin type its very important to moisturise your skin or you're at risk of dehydrating, which your skin will overcompensate with more oil then you'll start to break out.

Here's a brief science lesson.

People with oily skin have excess sebum that is secreted by sebaceous glands. Sebum forms a thin greasy film on top of the skin that helps the skin maintain flexibility and also helps keep the skin hydrated. So it is useful! However, overproduction of sebum clogs up your pores along with dead skin cells and bacteria which can lead to acne. This layer of dead skin cells, bacteria and sebum will only get thicker unless we wash our faces. Constantly washing your face and stripping it of oil will lead to dryness and exposure to the elements which will lead to premature ageing and irritation and no one wants to look old and wrinkly at 30 years of age. This is where moisturiser comes in! It provides our skin with much needed hydration.

So here are a couple of affordable moisturises for oily skin that everyone should buy. Note all of these have been tried and tested by myself and worked wonders on my skin
1. Neutrogena Visibly Clear Moisturiser
This is quite light texture and creamy consistency that leaves a semi matte finish and defintly leaves the skin looking healthy and radiant.
2. The body shop Vitamin C Daily moisturiser SPF30
This I loved as it has both SPF (which is ESSENTIAL to protect you from the UV rays that will cause skin ageing) and Vitamin C an antioxidant that will help you maintain healthy looking skin. It is very light and doesn't leave me looking oily.
3. The body shop seaweed mattifying day cream

I used this with the Vitamin C daily moisturiser and they worked together perfectly. This makes your skin matt as well as moisturises.

That's it for now and girls make sure to CTM ( CLEANSE TONE AND MOISTURISE)
