Mind, body and soul

Guard your heart

Our hearts are the source of everything we do. Whatever you allow to occupy your mind will determine your speech, thoughts and actions, which is why its so important that you guard your heart! Here are three aspects of my life that I've had to keep in check in order to protect myself:

1. Social media: Twitter, Instagram and Facebook are all great sources of information about our friends, celebs and the world in general but we can't deny how influential they all are. Research has shown that 1 in 3 people feel worse after being on Facebook and this was because of the inadequcies they felt after comparing themselves to friends.  The majority of us are glued to it whether we like to admit it or not. If you're anything like me you're probably on Instagram at any free second you have. This isn't always great especially when we start to make comparisons and that lead to insecurities. Let's set the scene, you see pictures girls with designer bags enjoying their lives on a beach in Dubai and now you feel inadequate and insecure because your life looks nothing like that. Or maybe its the girl with the perfect body and perfect boyfriend that's got you questioning what you're doing with your life. Either way take captive of these thoughts and remind yourself that though you're not at that stage yet, you will get there in your own time! Unfollow those people and get back to building your empire.
Moving on to Twitter, people love to tweet their unsolicited and inaccurate opinions so confidently and they are free to do so, but that does not mean that you have to carry on following them. Here is an example:
Seeking advice from Twitter is not the best decision. Just because someone on twitter said so, does not make it the standard.

Though we are all grown ups and can form our own opinion, research has shown that social media has messed with our ability to think independently. A study showed that subjects were more likely to change their minds about liking certain things if enough time had passed and they could see the other side was moderately popular.

2. Friendships: Its important to seek wise counsel and to be mindful that people's experiences will determine their own outlook on life. Such that when you come to them for advice, they may still be bitter in their heart and discourage you from whatever it is that you come to them for. This doesn't mean that their intention isn't good but their help may do more harm than good.

I think its also important to note that if you hang around with a person long enough you're exposed to their personal views and ideals, so its you may start to develop the same mentality, which isn't always necessarily a good thing. As the saying goes '' Birds of a feather flock together.''

Overall guys remember:

Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. - Proverbs 3:23
